Understanding Collection Sizes for Pricing

Back in early 2023, when I was considering forming pricing and subscription packages for Diecast Parking, I didn't know the average number of cars collectors typically have. This information was crucial for setting subscription prices that would be fair for both collectors and myself. To gain insight, I conducted polls in several Facebook groups to gauge the size of fellow collectors' collections. I received responses from a total of 575 people, and I want to extend a big thank you to everyone who participated!

Establishing Collection Size Categories

Initially, I categorized the collection sizes into various levels, as I had no idea about the potential numbers. Here are the ranges I established:

• 0-50
• 51-150
• 151-300
• 301-500
• 501-1000
• 1001-1500
• 1501-2000
• 2001-5000
• 5001-7500
• 7500+
• 10000+

Poll Results and Analysis

After compiling the results, I grouped them into several "levels" without separating them by manufacturer. This poll aimed to provide a general overview, recognizing that people collecting 1/64 scale models may have more items than those collecting 1/24 or 1/18 scale models.

As you can see, the largest group of people, comprising 72%, falls within the 51-500 models range, with the next significant group being in the 501-1500 models range. This indicates that 72% of collectors have between 51 and 1500 models, with the lower end of the range potentially representing beginners to collecting.

Setting Fair Subscription Prices

Based on these findings, I've structured the pricing such that the majority of collectors, constituting 72%, would pay between $1.99 to $2.99 per month. This pricing equates to approximately the cost of 1 to 3 cars per month, making it a small investment considering the benefits offered by the app. Additionally, this pricing model aligns with the trend of collectors expanding their collections each year, given the continuous release of new models by manufacturers.

Introductory Plan for New Users

The introductory plan for those with 0-50 models allows users to test the app's features and functionality. If satisfied within this initial range, there's a high likelihood of users transitioning to a paid subscription.
